Glaucoma Doctor

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist eye care provider for a Bank Glaucoma Doctor based in Bradford. Our client operates a network of dedicated eye hospitals across the UK, delivering world-class ophthalmic care across a range of specialisms including cataract surgery, refractive treatment, glaucoma, and medical retina. With a strong focus on clinical excellence and patient outcomes, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team in a modern, purpose-built clinical environment.
Job Purpose
As an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team working alongside the Lead Consultant for Glaucoma, we are looking for a staff grade doctor to carry out pre- and post-operative consultations, diagnose and assess the suitability of glaucoma patients for treatment (anti-glaucoma medications/SLT/PI), deliver these treatments, and manage patients according to the requisite policies and frameworks for care.
Main Duties & Key Responsibilities
• Diagnose, evaluate and manage patients with existing and undiagnosed glaucoma, along with other ocular conditions.
• Provide advice to patients, carers and families as appropriate, including explaining treatment options and their associated risks and benefits.
• Analyse and interpret diagnostic data (including IOP, visual field assessments, OCT, fundus biomicroscopy, CCT and gonioscopy) to identify and treat new or progressing glaucoma-related ocular conditions.
• Develop appropriate management plans for glaucoma referrals in line with relevant guidance, including NICE guidelines and internal policy.
• Run glaucoma clinics for patients, maintaining accurate patient records to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
• Provide ongoing education and support to patients and their families regarding glaucoma management and treatment options.
• Provide clinical advice to patients and follow the appropriate means of onward referral to another medical practitioner as necessary.
• Ensure awareness of CQC policies and updates, attending all mandatory update courses.
• Help to control cross infection by enforcing hospital policy, maintaining a clean working environment, and following decontamination and sterilisation procedures.
• Proactively identify ways to improve processes and service to ensure a streamlined, efficient and high-quality patient experience.
• Travel to hospital sites and attend online meetings as required for training, pathway review and team meetings.
• Support the development of the service by delivering CPD and presentations at educational and scientific meetings.
• Support audit and reporting activities pertaining to the Glaucoma pathway.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience
• Medical degree from a recognised university.
• Valid GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Experience in ophthalmology, particularly in managing glaucoma cases.
• Excellent diagnostic and clinical skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
• Experience in the delivery of SLT and PI for glaucoma (desirable).
• Experience of using electronic patient administration and medical record systems.
Knowledge & Skills
• Able to work within the relevant codes of practice and professional standards for the delivery of glaucoma care.
• Able to identify new, existing and progressing glaucoma cases and develop appropriate treatment plans.
• Able to clearly explain treatment options, risks and benefits to patients.
• Experience in delivering treatment to glaucoma patients, ideally including medications, SLT and PIs.
• Able to build and maintain exceptional relationships with colleagues and patients.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and excellent time management.
